Many people are curious about the work of journalism photographers and the digital camera equipment that they use when photographing the headline stories for newspapers and magazines. Using some of the techniques that professional photojournalists use can help you to take better pictures with your digital camera.  In addition selecting the right type of photo editing software can help you tremendously to refine the quality of your pictures as well as special effects. The digital technology revolution in journalism photography has accelerated the process of news reporting tremendously.  In the past it took hours or sometimes days from the point of taking the photo to its processing and delivery to the publication. With the variety of digital cameras on the market along with the photo editing software is currently available and laptop computers, photojournalists are able to take photos and deliver them via the Internet in a matter of minutes.

But journalism photography gear must be constructed sturdily in order to withstand the rigors of travel and inclement conditions that many different locations present.  In addition photojournalists are often placed on assignment in locations that are extremely dangerous; the action around them is moving at a breakneck speed and violence to their physical person is a real possibility.

It would be impossible to consider a photographer in this type of situation without the equipment that would allow them to compose and meter their photographs with confidence in getting the shot.

Particularly in these types of dangerous situations photojournalists must have equipment that is proven in performance regardless to the speed of the action taking place. Digital cameras are preferred when the photographer needs to be able to compose and shoot a shot in a very short span of time.

In terms of digital cameras by and large many photographers prefer the Canon EOS bodies, with the most popular lenses being a 17-35f2.8 and the other with a 70-200f2.8. Most of the photographs that you see in the newspaper, on the Internet or in a magazine are shot in JPEG format for speed. But depending on the circumstances you can also find journalism photography taken in JPEG + RAW.

Which laptop computer do photojournalists prefer, Macs or PCs? Very often they use both loaded with photo editing software such as Photo Mechanic that works on both PCs and Macintosh computers to set up the IP TV header information that's required by most publishing transmissions. The final editing is usually done in Photoshop.
In journalism photography whether the work is coming from the field or from a distant location around the world of photographs will be captioned, resized and cropped before submission to the newspaper, wire service or agency.

Many photojournalists were working domestically are able to transmit from their cell phone or from a Wi-Fi hotspot.  International journalism photographers can use satellite phones in addition to these methods. More frequently photojournalists are using the Canon EOS series as a digital camera best suited to capture the imagery of the moment.
